Our name

For years this office was known as Morrissey Law Office. Today it is Belveal Law Office: the same building on West Fourth Street, the same phone number, and the same people.

Notable case

To the state's highest court, when it matters.

Most matters are resolved close to home. When a client's case deserves it, we see it through.

IN THE SUPREME COURT OF THE STATE OF KANSAS

No. 124,946

Jeannine Williams-Davidson and Jeffrey Davidson,Appellants, v. Nason Lui, M.D., Stormont-Vail Healthcare, Inc., et al.,Appellees.
Decided
March 8, 2024

WHAT HAPPENED

A patient went into surgery to have her adrenal gland removed. Instead, the surgeon removed part of her pancreas. The defense argued her case should be thrown out because she had no expert witness to explain the mistake to a jury.

The case went to the Kansas Supreme Court, which left in place an appellate ruling in the family's favor. Their claim was allowed to move forward. The decision was covered by the Topeka Capital-Journal.

Counsel for appellants: Jason W. Belveal, Belveal Law Office, Inc., Holton.

Common questions

Do I need an appointment?

Yes. Please call ahead so we can set aside time for you. Same-week appointments are often available, and we make room for urgent matters.

What should I bring to my first meeting?

Anything related to your matter: court papers, deeds, prior wills, letters, or notices. Each practice area above lists specifics. If you're not sure, bring it.

I was just charged with a DUI. What should I do first?

Call promptly. A DUI involves two tracks, the criminal case and your driver's license, and some license deadlines are very short.

How long does probate take in Kansas?

Many estates take several months to a year. Some qualify for simpler procedures, and we'll tell you which path fits at the first meeting.

Do you work with clients outside Holton?

Yes. We serve all of Jackson County and northeast Kansas, and many meetings can happen by phone or video. One client calls us from California.

Is what I tell you confidential?

What you share while seeking legal advice is treated confidentially. Please keep the website form brief and save details for a call or meeting.
